Was thinking about heading down - would like to do an expedition race some day, so it could be interesting to see what's going on.

I've not heard much detail about the festival yet... but the organizing team seem great, so I imagine if they do run a festival I'd say it'd be good...

Yup, its a very good organising team, and I know they're putting in a huge effort as we speak. If you really want to find out about expedition AR races, but don't want to race, then you could try volunteering to be a marshall (I don't know if they're officially looking yet, but an experienced orieenteer would be very valuble to them).

Is there going to be a huge zip line in the gap or am I thinking of another event?

You're certainly thinking of the same event - that's being a big feature in the early promotional material. In fairness, while it's a great marketing tool, I imagine it'll be a fun but relatively minor part of the racers' experience...

I don't know any more than that, not sure if it'll be open to the public or just the race competitors, you'd have to talk to the race organisers.

i'm sure for insurance reasons it will be competitors only.....there was something in outsider about it being the longest of any race so far....looks amazing though...

The longest one in an ARWC qualifier... thats a very well qualified statement. Have a look at the following for a view of the most amazing zip I've ever seen (and done :D) in an adventure race (Its at about 2:50 in the video)...

The zip will hardly play any rol in deciding who wins the race, but it should be a lot of fun.
