Just tried to renew my TV licence on TVLicence.ie and they recommend Internet Explorer. But they actually don't allow you to progress on the site using Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer for Mac or IEView.

Guess this means all us Mac users are exempt from paying our TV licence!

    Huzzah!

    Mac - 1
    PC - 0

    ;):D

Hehe. Have you tried Opera as afair Opera has a thing that you can set that shows the browser as being IE. Afair..

Ended up using the girlfriend's PC to pay it. Absolutely dreadful site - both from a design and technical viewpoint!

Will try Opera now for the craic.. didn't have it installed originally but am installing now.

EDIT: Nope.. Opera didn't work either. They do say this though on the 'Unsupported Browser' page.
The TV Licence Online system supports Internet Explorer 6 or Version 7 for Windows only at this time.

We have detected that you are using another browser. Unfortunately, this means that you can't use the TV Licence Online service at this time.

We are working to add support for other browsers, including Firefox, to the TV Licence Online system.

I wonder if Microsoft gets a cut of the license fee now.

Safari 3 also has a debug menu which lets you set it to act as any of the main browsers.

That really is a stupid f**k up. For a site that is offering such a simple service not to be compliant with more than one browser is crazy. Especially seeing as it look like it was a deliberate decision that was made considering the fact the actually check your browser and provide you with an HTML error page if you aren't using IE6 or IE7.

It just reeks of a decision made by a business man, or dare I say a government official to try and use the latest and greatest technologies for no reason other than justify the no doubt huge cost of the web site, all the while saying “ah sure everyone uses IE. What do you mean there are other Internets?.”

To note, I tried Opera, but im on Windows since my Mac is off for repair.

But, did you choose "Mask as Internet Explorer" not just "Identify as Internet Explorer"? Makes a difference.

Otherwise, its looking for Win/OSX bit too.

Even though i find it annoying I dont think I will be basing who I vote for on poor browser support. Imagine Bertie v Enda in the great debate one supports IE one supports Firefox, while wait here comes the Labour party who thinks every browser ever made should be supported right back to the IE 3.1.

It's not.. I was joking!

But there's no browser supported on Mac. Internet Explorer 6 or 7 on Windows are only supported.

Have you tried faking IE in firefox to see if it sticks?

IEView didn't work... but the User Agent Switcher plugin that Sherifu posted above did.
