What do you think? Better value for money at a festival, or do you prefer watching bands play the full setlist at their own gig...

For bands/artists as big as Neil Young the setlist would be as long at a festival as it would be seeing them standalone as they'd obviously be headlining, unless it was a special gig in a small venue, there wouldn't that be a noticable difference in amount of people there, and most people would know them in either case.

For smaller bands, stand alone gigs would of course be better.

Standalone! Your usually able to get way closer to the stage, sound is usually better cos its indoors, your not wrecked from being at a festival and can give all your energy to the band etc

I think festivals are great but not for seeing your fav bands but discovering new bands

If its a band, either big or small, that I really wanna see, then I prefer stand-alone gigs. I love festivals, love everything about them, and the music can oftentimes be a big bonus really.

Also depends on the band aswell. Some bands just play greatest hits stuff at festivals, for a general audience, whereas at their own show they may branch out a bit. Some bands I love just do whatever they want, dont care bout the fans, thats great then.

So prob stand-alone moreso, but with nothing particularly against a festival, as they can be better value(Pinkpop, 3 days, look at lineup:eek:)

    Stand alone where possible

Festivals are great for what they are - and has been said for headliners you nearly get the same set time as a stand alone gig, but it's not the same....

Stand alone gigs are more intimate, even in the larger venues, there's more of a one-to-one with the artist, and you often get surprises in sets that you just won't get a a fest.......I still love going to smaller bands/gigs and being right in front of the artist and when it's right and everythings working well theres no atmosphere greater than a small venue with artists that are feeding off that.....

again, nothing against Festivals but I've never gotten that sort of feeling from them, always thing fests are more fun for a lot of bands because they've better craic with other bands and there's maybe not as much expectations from the crowd...
