Panasonic PT-AE700 fading on bottom right of screen

    Hi Guys,

My Panasonic PT-AE700 Projector is starting to fade in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. It is a couple of years old and has over 3500Hrs on the Lamp. I thought this was the lamp going, but according to some people on some Web Forums, this sounds like a Projector problem and not a Lamp problem, as when the lamp goes the whole screen goes dim

    Any Ideas?

    Cheers

    Hi DJW7,

Can be one of many different causes. The PT-AE700 lamp has a std lamp life of 3000 & 5000 in eco mode. As the lamp gets older it looses its brightness. The 3000 hr lamplife usually relates to the lamp producing 50% of its origional brightness.

How old is you projector. One major down side of LCD projectors over DLP is that the LCD chip deteriorates over time where a DLP Chip will last easly for the life of the projector. Maybe your LCD Chip is starting to experience Long Term Image Degradation.

For this very reason, commerical projectors requiring long running hours (24/7) must be DLP technology.

If LCD Chip deterioration is your problem then if your PJ is out of warranty then this could be a costly repair.

    HTH...

    Thanks Jmal,

Its just under 2 and a half years old, but it gets a lot of use as I use it as a 2nd tv in my media room. If I use it, I usually leave it on for most the day as I don't want to be switching it on and off too much as I know that effects the Lamp life also.

If I knew it was definitely a Lamp problem, I'd just get a new Lamp, but if its not definite, then I don't think I could take the chance of spending €500 on a new Lamp and to still have the problem

It's looking more and more likely I'd have to get a new Projector.

Switching a PJ ON and OFF correctly (letting the PJ lamp cool down before cutting the power) will have little if any effect on the lamp life.

The problem is if the projector's power is cut before the lamp gets a chance to cool down correctly, then this can greatly effect the lamp life.

Long running hours on an LCD Projector can cause problems over time, and you will find that anything close to 8 hours per day will put most LCD PJ's outside their warranty requirements (usually in the "small print").

Most single lamp DLP PJ's are warranty for running hours of betwen 12-16hrs per day. Sounds to me like an LCD Chip Set problem... but hard to be sure?

I managed to get some pics of the problem.

I've also noticed that the screen burn seems to be kicking in a lot quicker now and staying longer around where the problem is in the bottom right hand corner.

In some cases its more noticeable than others, so I took pics of the Xbox startup screen as the problem shows up more clearly with it.

In one of the Xbox logo screens you can see a burn from the Xbox dashboard, which was only on screen for a minute or so before I restarted the xbox to take another picture.

    Any Ideas?

    Cheers
