    Hey All,

Looking for some info on the planning and sustainable development course in UCC - What's it like? Would you recommend? Work load? Employment prospects? How does it compare to the UCD version?

    Cheers!

Good course. Bit disorganised at times but generally very positive. Emplyment prospects as good as comparable courses - has just been given prov. accreditation by RTPI.

    Cheers!

    Hey Hannah,
i finished the MPlan last year. Accreditation by the RTPI (and to a lesser extent the IPI) is the big thing and that's been achieved. If you really wanna be a planner look at one year courses in the UK, you'll be as employable over here and you'll save yourself a packet. Only thing is you'll be entering the jobs market when things are still at a standstill so the MPlan might help you ride out the recession (expensive though).

The Sustainable Development part of it is underdeveloped but having it in the title helps and can open doors into things other than pure planning (which was great for me).

Overall planning is so dependent on the building trade, and there's so many planners out there its not a great time to be getting into it. There's opportunities to use the skills and the degree (if you can spot them) outside of pure County Council Planning Permission Granting/Refusing planning and they'll grow but you might be better off doing another Masters if that's where you're interests lie.

Overall it's as good as dublin, becoming more organised and the workloads managable. Alot of the course is interesting and the generalist nature (covers alot of topics) is a bonus (according to the RTPI) as you're more rounded even if you wonder why on earth you're doing it at the time.

Sorry about the lenght of the reply hope it's helpful. Anything else get on to me. Good luck in whatever you do!!
