    two players.

Player A: plays 10c/20c to 25c/50c, is basically a break even player, and for a calendar year posts a profit of $500.

Player B: regularly crushes the games player A grinds at, and up to $1/$2 and $2/$4... takes his proft, has regular shots at $3/$6 and $5/$10 and up... and busts, and starts at the beginning again. for the same calendar year posts a profit of $400.

who's a better player and why? and do i have to much time on my hands?

player b is the better player skills wise. But player A would more likely be able to make a living out of poker if he improved.

This is kinda like me and dougee19. Except I'd be playing .50/1 to 1/2 and I'm not a breakeven player and dougee would be taking shots at 10/20 and 25/50.

I'd have a better grasp of the theory, have way better bankroll management and try to grind my way up but will probably take years to get there, if at all.

Dougee would be capable of grinding up quickly but often playing way above his head. He'd have really big days and go busto quite frequently. One day he'll be telling me about winning sessions bigger then my whole bankroll and the next he'll be busto and playing $5 tourneys.

Dougee would have way more experience playing the higher stakes games but I'd be able to articulate my thoughts better. I'd never be able to do what dougee does and he'd probably struggle to do what I do.

I think he'd consider me the better player though or at least be able to teach it better.

And yes; you have too much time on your hands.

Not that I agree with his total lack of BR Management but Player B sounds like he's got game - more capable of becoming a dangerous opponent than Player A is ever likely to be. He is prepared to push at his boundaries and is perhaps learning more as a result, maybe one day he will have taken the lessons learned the hard way on board and be good enough to beat those higher limits.

    Player A = Cooker 3
    Player B = AKQJT

Quite unfair to Cooker3 tbh, he seems to be fairly crushing 200nl at the moment not grinding out at the micro limits.

I actually think it's not too unfair a comparison in terms of mindset.

Me neither, Player B is the nuts.

However someone like cooker who constantly strives to reach the next level is different to Player A

The only real point of comparison is the levels they both play, and from that it's clear B is better. Also I like his moxy. A will probably never improve much, but B could kick on to a new level and make some serious money.

Reminds me of a piece some top pro wrote about 2 similar players: one grinding out a decent living at lower levels, another not initially as good but more willing to move up. The pro's point was that while A might make a decent living with little risk or variance, all top players are type B. A's game ultimately stagnates at the level he's settled at, whereas B's will almost certainly improve for playing at a higher

it wasnt meant to be insulting, player A grinds Player B spins!

Player B reminds me of what they say about the 10th best poker player in the world.

Who does the 10th best poker player in the world play with?
With the other 9 players going broke.

Player A is a waste of space
    Player B is an idiot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭RoundTower

I think this is a good question

I think it's easier for A to become a winner.
