Bourbon in Dublin?

I'm a southern man, so when it comes to whiskey, it's Bourbon. Nothing wrong with Irish or Scottish Whisky, but when you're raised on Bourbon, nothing else will do. The hard part is finding it. Sure, Seamus McBeam is everywhere, and I do enjoy my share of it. However, where can a Texan go to find some variety in southwest Dub? I hear O'Briens in Dun Laoghaire is GREAT, but it's a bit of a drive for a weekday. I'll find time to visit this weekend, though.

Have you tried Molloys? They have a branch at the Foxes covert and have Woodford Reserve available on their website. Failing that, your best bet is the Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dawson Street, here's their stock list..

You might also want to try over on the Beer, Wine & Spirits forum. There are guys working in various off licences who post there regularly.

    No worries. Any particular favourites?

  • Molloy's in Ranelagh usually have some Maker's Mark, or some excellent Woodford Reserve...

    Both excellent Kentucky Bourbuns

Maker's Mark and Woodford are two great Bourbons. I dunno if I have a favorite, actually. I just enjoy the variety. Some I like with ice mroe, some with a chaser, but mostly I enjoy em straight. It had completely left my mind that I might have issues finding Bourbon in Ireland when I decided on the move. I dunno what I was thinking. I am just so used to seeing it everywhere.

My regular bourbon is Wild Turkey, which is grand because it's not too hard to track down. For something a little better I usually pick up a bottle in airport duty frees when I'm away, or else ask someone to bring me back a bottle. It's impossible to buy most of the bottles I have/had here. Like you it's the variety and trying new bourbons that I like as much as anything.

Hey, at least I speak English...er mostly. Mmm...this is some good Bourbon. Maker's has less vanilla and more caramel than I recall. This would go good with coke. I must admit I do tend to lean towards the mroe vanilla and oak flavors.
