Sorry, I don't play sax so I can't really give advice on that. ;)

But I'd recommend you check out McCullough Piggots on Sth. William St. if you're in Dublin. They have a good selection of sheet music for most instruments. I'm sure they might have some sax stuff in there too. :)

I've not found any good free sheet music resources on the web, so calling into some of the local music shops is a good suggestion. Opus II, Educational Music Services, Paul Ryan Music and Waltons are the others I'd suggest in Dublin. Waltons, McCulloughs, Opus II and Paul Ryans are within 5-10 minutes walk of each other.

As a beginner, I'd suggest not playing too much initially. The mouth muscles, the embouchure, take time to develop like any muscle group. I've had a few days where I've played 6-7 hours and that can be very tiring, but they're rare. Start off week 1, no more than 15 mins 3-4 times. Build up the number days or try increasing by 5 minutes per practice, each week. See what works with your schedule. Don't try to make up on practice time in one go as it doesn't work.

Most beginner books usually show you a bit about the instrument, how to put on reed, how to hold sax, start off with a few easy notes, low G, A, B. Since you're looking for sheet music, I presume you have already played another instrument. Many of the regular beginner books are aimed at young teens. Try a few scales, learn the notes on the sax and work on the tone. Know a number of clarinet players whose sax sound is not great and they don't know all the keys on the instrument (about 23 on most instruments!).

A popular sax piece like Pink Panther is a Grade 4 or 5 piece, so have patience . Actually looking at ABRSM or RIAM syllabuses might be good place to pick a book that covers a few grades and would give you some ideas about the level of pieces.

    Enjoy!
