Email account hacked?

Hey, on saturday when i logged into my normal email account i noticed an email from myself with ebay as the subject, i assumed it was just spam that threw my name in as the sender, however when i looked at it i noticed it was actually from my hotmail account (which i don't use much) which has the same log in name as my normal email account (gmail). The email has been sent to the first 20-30 names in my address book...

When i logged into hotmail there was a couple of automatic emails from companies that were in my address book telling me that i should hear a response to my query in a few days, so obviously the email was sent from my account alright... The same email was sent again early this morning, both show up in my sent mail folder...

I presume this would imply that my email account has been hacked? Anything i can do other than change the password?

Change your password, and do a complete sweep of your computer for nasty stuff. Make sure you're not using the same password for any other accounts, and if you are, change them as well. Make sure any passwords you use are random collections of numbers and letters (mix upper/lower case).

Any idea how this could have happened though?

A Trojan is the most likely cause.

Did you have a strong password?

Also don't leave accounts logged in or passwords saved in the browser.

Trojans love that kind of thing.
