I got given a P&T No6 phone test set by some yesterday who thought it was a military field phone. Anyone know anything about these?

    Hi Rabbit Stew,

Can you tell us anything more about the set? Or include a picture maybe?

    A few questions:
Is it in a metal box or wood?
    What color is it?
    Any markings, date, stampings etc?

    Hi croppy,
    False alarm i'm afraid.
I got it yesterday as a gift with a brodie mk 1 from the brother in law.
Did a bit of research today and it turned out it was a 1960's Post and Telegraphs (hence p&t No 6) Linesman's test set.
It's a PYE Tele 704 and no good to me.

    Nice helmet though.:D

Ah, oh well, you have a nice piece of Irish P&T hardware anyway :p

How about the helmet? Any dates etc on that?

    Liner Says
    6 3/4
    VERO
    1
    1939

    Helmet is stamped
    1939
    607 (inverted) I think

It's a fairly accrid (kelly) green
So i'm guessing it was an irish aquisition during WW2
    Somebody else might know better?

Actually just had a look at the helmet thread and it's not unlike your Brodie Croppy.
Different chin-strap though, i think mine is the standard.
My Helmet shell is stamped under the rim about 3 inc. to the left of the chin strap rivet. But is very faint.
