Just having a debate at work re the big Irish bookmakers.

Which are the biggest ones out there?
    Boyles
    Celtic
    Cashmans
    Mulhollands
    Sean Graham
    Bruces
    Hacketts.

    Am I missing anyone?

Yeah your missing the so called biggest one - quite obvious too, though perhaps this is some sort of trick question as it's registered offices are also on the IOM, but then so are most 'Irish' bookies.

What is the definition of biggest? Turnover through their Irish registered company?

Apart from PP, there's also Terry Rogers (not the biggest by a long shot).

    No, no trick question.
I was trying to think of big Irish bookies, I thought of Powers easy enough.

The rest were examples of where I was going.

    Turnover/shops would be ideal.

How big are chronicle? Anyone know?

Don't forget Ladbrokes. They have the most amount of shops on the island of Ireland, being 271 (Paddy Power 187, Boyles 123) Like another of the other big high street bookies in Ireland they put revenue through the IOM. I imagine their cash flow through their Irish shops would put them in the top 3 at least.

They are as much 'Irish' as Paddy Power or Boyles.

    Thanks Blue.
I think I can be a bit more specific - Irish, Private and independent.

What size is Bamburys, does anyone know? Limerick based, same goes for Kevin McManus's operation.

    1. Boyles
    2. Celtic
    3. Terry Rogers / Hacketts

    At a guess

Boyle Sports is the largest independent Irish bookmaker anyhow.

    Some figures are
2006 (year ending June) - Turnover of 507m euro, operation profit of 3.9m euro
2007 (year ending June) - Turnover of 629m euro, operation profit of 15.6m euro

The Track is another Irish bookies chain - well, they've got a few in Dublin anyway.

Yeah they've a few in the north-east area also, owned by a Balbriggan publican.

Seems we got a fight for the title on our hands...

Boyles may be biggest by number if shops but really hard to actually classify them as a bookmaker

Is it true that the Paddy Power shop up at Northside Shopping Center is the busiest in Ireland?

a mate of mine once auditted a major bookmakers (won't name them). Had a spreadsheet with the individual turnover by shop. The most profitable shops were the ones in the scummiest areas of dublin. Drug money galore being washed through them (mine and my mates opinion, not that of any employee of the bookmakers)
