Did any body even read the article?

They even say that they don't intend on competing with Blu-Ray.

This will have no effect whatsoever.

So...how is it going to work then?

Whether they intend on competing is irrelevant. The fact that it's cheaper for the same quality and from the article
a market among consumers with less disposable income, particularly outside the United States.

a market with BR is not accessible means it will impact on BR if it works.

Saying it will have no effect is a bit naïve.

HD-DVD was cheaper then Blu-Ray too, that worked out real well, and that had the backing of a major consumer electronics firm.

I have no idea who is behind this, their website at the moment is password protected.

Nor is this technology new, It appears to be vapour ware given VMD's were announced back in 2006, I dont know what company seems to be backing it. ( http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/30/nme-fleshes-out-40gb-hd-vmd-discs-hardware-still-prepping-for/ http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/29/nme-says-the-format-war-is-still-on-it-totally-made-out-with-a/ )

For bootlegging purposes wouldn't china's CH-DVD format be better?
a market among consumers with less disposable income, particularly outside the United States.

And yet they are able to afford HD telly's? If they don't have HD telly's then standard DVD's are just as good.

Given economies of scale, blu-ray stuff will be getting cheaper and cheaper all the time.

I stand by my statement saying this will have no effect.

no the format war is over this is just a cheaper format that is also HD, since all the major companies have backed bluray and have already begun making there shows on bluway, the EU launch of BSG season 1 HD and Star Trek Season 2 HD where both cancelled even though they where already in production. Hopefully they will be on bluray soon.

Not bad....some of their AAA titles are only about 11 euro on their online store....

    Interesting to see a review...
