Bah! I was watching a bit of Sergio Leones Fistfull of Dynamite on TG4, Friday. They showed an image that was 16:9 ratio but it wasn't a widescreen image merely a 4:3 ratio with a letterbox juxtaposed on top.

Could'nt they find a true widecreen print and will the same thing happen when they show Apocalypse Now Friday coming?

TCM do it properly - full widescreen image, yes there are huge black spaces top and bottom if using a 4:3 set but I'd much sooner that and have all the image and pin-sharp defintion than anything esle.

    Esp fake widescreen.

    Mike.

    I hate gammy ARs!

They did it with the DOA DVD, cos they left in a scene where Jamie Presley's lips didnt move, but she said a line, so to fix it on the DVD they cropped THE WHOLE DVD, just so that one bit would crop her mouth out

so the DVD looks crammed all the way through

    booooo

    your kidding?

There are loads of ways that could have been fixed rather, then crop the whole dvd?

Not to mention it wouldnt have been cropped when the film was in theatre???

The DOA thing is probably an accident though and might be fixed in a future dvd release. Happens all the time, they made a disaster of all the Tideland dvds. It's much worse when the director actually approves of it, such as in the case of Apocalypse Now and The Last Emperor, both of which were intentionally cropped for dvd.

I know! the film was spammed with horrible CG anyways, so they coulda took that route, but no, they crop the whole film!

Yeah, i first saw it in the cinema in its uncropped glory

Now its all hands and the tops of heads cut off at the top

    for shame! :(
