As title says, i managed to burn an image onto my screen. the other night i passed out and left the laptop running now the image is stuck on the screen and visible when a plain backround is displayed. It's not the first time it's happened but normally it goes away because the burn wouldn't be too bad.

any ideas/suggestions on how to clear it?
I'm usin a detailed picture on my desktop backround at the moment to hide it but when on boards etc it shows up.

Try displaying a completely white screen for a while (half hour maybe) and see if that does anything.

Yep, just create a completely white image in ms paint. Use that image as your screen saver then watch some tv for a while.

in the future reconfigure your display settings so the laptop screen switches off after a short period of inactivity (between 2-15 minutes is recommended - this will not affect most video players either)

Thanks for the advice. Only thing is sometimes i'm working on my laptop through out the day usin the same program. so a window may be there for hours at a time non stop. Is there a way to prevent screen burn if the laptop is on for extended period of time with say, one window?

@AlmightyCushion. I done as you said. left the laptop for approx 40mins and the damage was cleared. thanks.

Maybe go for a coffee break every so often, when you do turn off the screen. I don't think I've ever seen a case where this was permanent so I wouldn't really worry about preventing it too much.

I use firefox almost constantly myself I can say I've ever seen any burn from the application itself - or for that matter the start bar.

Theres lots you could try. One would be to lower the brightness to just what you need. Full brightness isnt always a requirement. Another is to invert your color scheme. For example, changing the text to white/yellow and the background to black.

But even with the idle shutoff that i mentioned earlier you shouldnt see a problem: even when the screen shuts down for a minute at a time it will do a wonder in preventing damage over time. Also consider the LCDs lightbulb: it WILL eventually fail. Thats a given. Dont waste its lifetime needlessly: its a lot harder to replace than say, a battery, and when it goes it will be a pain in the arse to swap out.

Someone should invent screen savers. Oh wait...
