    Hey
For LCVP (relatively new half ass subject with potential for 70 points in the leacing cert) I chose to do my career investigation on civil engineering.

I have to write a section on skills/qualities of a civil engineer.

So far these are the skills/qualities I have came up with:
    Creativity
    Diversity
    Complex problem solving skills
    Mathematical skills
    ICT skills
    Communication skills

Are these all relevant to civil engineering???? Any others I'm missing?? Also could ye tell me how civil engineers use these skills in everyday work?

I also had to write a description of a civil engineer.
    Heres what i wrote:

    Description:

Civil engineering is all about improving and protecting the world we inhabit. Civil engineering involves the application of scientific knowledge and available technology to improve the overall quality of life in both the first and third worlds. It involves the planning, design and construction of facilities that we require for everyday living, industry and transport. Civil engineers design, construct and maintain the infrastructure and facilities that are essential to society. Their work includes the development of airports, offshore oil platforms, bridges, roads, railways, waste collection and treatment systems, and water supply systems. Civil engineering also aims to solve environmental issues such as air pollution, coastal protection and waste treatment.

There are many specialised areas of civil engineering such as: structural engineering (building bridges), Infrastructure engineering (roads, railways, airports etc), Energy engineering (renewable energy technologies).

Civil Engineering offers a challenging and wide-ranging career with a perfect balance between office and outdoor work.

    Any mistakes/flaws???

    THANKS!!!!!!

You are on the correct track there so far but look into the energy engineering thing as this is not really done by Civil guys really. They do help with the infrastructure with energy technnologies but not really heavily involved in the design (i.e. other engineers may design a wind turbine ad a civil engineer would consult on the placement of it into the ground)

Also engineers nowadays are also very much accountants as the money aspect of it has become just as important as a good engineer can save companies lots of money on supplies/design/manufacturing.

Renewable energy would be more to do with electrical/power engineering, and mechanical also for design of wind turbines etc. Not really civil.

For Civil you can also add Building Services Engineering which is kind of a sub-speciality. This would cover the design and installation of electrical and mechanical services for buildings such as electrical wiring, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, lighting etc
