wind turbines

    i seen anad in the local paper about wind turbines that can be on or off grid.... have they changed the law now that you can connect turbines directly into the mains??

    I have asked them fro more info and will let you know as i do thanks

    You can connect to the grid now but you don't get paid for what you export yet but its being worked on to get that rectified I think.

    If you dont use it as you make it you dont get paid for it????

    OR

    say you make 1000units in a year but only use 800units yourslef in the year you wont get paid for the 200 units????


    anyone got any links to affordable wind turbines.. like the wee DIY ones that were here a while ago

    Are the units you generate used to offset the units you use? I suppose I'm asking is it net metering?

    No, net metering will not be an option for technical and economic reasons. The medium-term plan is that smart-metering will facilitate the connection of micro-generators. But this could be a couple of years off for most of us. In the meantime, I believe you have the option of getting an "interval meter" from the ESB. This registers import/export every 15 minutes. The plan is to provide the first 100 of these interval meters to micro-generators for free. (I'd love to know if anyone here has actually managed to get one of these from the ESB). If you're lucky enough to get a free one, you'll still have to pay for the installation costs though. There are no rules at the moment about how much you'd get paid for exported electricity. This is something you have to negotiate with your electricity supplier.

    I don't know the exact details I had heard about it on tv and read something about it maniac101 seems to have more details.
