Oval Bug- legality of repair

Comments

I don't see any reason why it cannot be repaired...

The word "write off" just means repair isn't feasible I would think. If you are handy on a mig, and have all the time in the world I assume there is no such thing as a car which cannot be repaired.

They may have sent the log book back to the DVLA......could be too late.

I think the problem may be more that they have to certify crushing the shell.

Thats kinda what i meant...they can only sell off the removeable bits ....pity its not over here..anything goes.;)

well,it being a beetle,id argue that the bodyshell is a removable part, and id go off with that aswell;).It doesnt seem to be that badly damaged?

Forgive my ignorance but is there a way of replacing the floorpan but still registering it as a '56 (I think I know the answer already)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

I wouldnt think so,the chassis number is tied to the floorpan as far as i know..

    With another '56 floor pan.

The floorpans can be replaced with what ever u want. The chassis number is in the middle tunnel. As long, as this is not replaced, it will be the same car. I have a tunnel only of a 1972 beetle. When i was at the NCT telling them that i want to make my own frame, floorpans and body they told me, that i can do this. The finished car will be a modified beetle and it will be still a classic car from 1972.
Bring this car to me, give me 2-3 month, pay enough and i bring it back on the road as new.

strip it on there premises....:D take off one valve cap and load up the two components on a trailer......although if they are applying the rules correctly, the remains should be crushed...I hopoe the buyer doesnt get a nasty shock...the auction is actually for all removable components....id say buyer HASNT bought the actual shell

The parts on this one are worth more than the car (chassis and shell), unless they were removed before the sale...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Still a pity to scrap the whole car when the shell doesnt look that bad, and particularly an oval beetle, there cant be a huge amount of them left in good order.

But if it's vintage it's exempt from NCT - none of their business really as long as the car is roadworthy when you drive it. Once you register it under whatever chassis number is on it you can pretty much do whatever you want with it after that!

Can anyone advise men on my 1965 bug, Gear selection problems, I can't select 1st or 2nd well I can with some fiddling about, not good in a string of traffic. 3rd and 4th aren't a problem. I've tried moving the lever left, right, but still no luck. Any thoughts would be welcome.
