Does anyone know of anywhere in Dublin city that can wire in new pick ups?
Any ideas of how much it costs? I have the pickups just need them wired in!

Should be easy enough to do it yourself. check out http://www.seymourduncan.com for schematics. Other than that check out the musical instruments resources sticky on the top of this forum, there are some tech's contact details in there. :)

Derrick Nelson out in Marley Park is a popular choice round here. ;)

Is it the same kind of pickup? I found that the Seymour Duncan JB has exactly the same colour coding as a Fender standard humbucker. Plus you can easily find wiring diagrams online. If you take note of what goes where, you should be fine doing it yourself. Do a few practise runs with the soldering iron first though!

I tried to wire them myself but its not sounding right! The guitar sounds clean and pretty quiet even when i trun the gain and volume up on my amp!

The guitar is a Tokai Love Rock (Les Paul copy) and the new pick ups are Seymour Duncan set sh4 in the neck and sh2 in the bridge.
I followed the diagram that came with the pickups but its not the same as the way the original pickups were wired. The original pickups are soldered to the tone pots but in the seymour duncan diagrams they should be wired to the volume pots.

I could wire them the way the originals were but the cable from the new pick up isnt long enough to reach the tone pots for some reason.
Also the original pickups only had two wires but the duncans have five from each pick up!!

This is driving me nuts!!! I have a gig at the weekend and I reckon it would just be easier at this stage to pay someone to do it properly!!

    Any ideas???

Yeah the SH-4 and 2 should sound plenty hot.

I think as a general rule, try to match up with the way the original was wired, and see if you can interpret the wiring diagram to fit your guitar.

If there were only 2 wires in the original, you'll find you can combine certain wires on your Seymour Duncans to make 2. You'll just have to find out which ones (or maybe just with trial and error - you can stay plugged in and listen on your amp for when the right connections have been made before finalising). Also, make sure you haven't dripped any solder to make unwanted connections.

The reason the Duncans have 5 wires is because they are compatible with many configurations, some of which involve using just half of the pickup (so it sounds like a single coil).

I'd imagine it's not too skilled a job. Musicians Inc, Sound Gear - I'm sure any of them could solder in pickups without much risk.
