Am I The Only One who Doesn't Like or 'Get' Bob Dylan?

I have never understood how Bob Dylan is heralded as some supreme musician. I think he is utter ****e. Although he has mastered the mumbling whining prick on a banjo sound.

However, unless i'm around my close friends, I wouldn't dare utter such an opinion for a fear of a cultural dressing down.

Does anyone else have a negative opinion about a musical act, album, film, actor etc. that are generally held in high regard by the status quo.

Oh yeah, not mad on The Beatles either. Westlife of their day really.

I'd definitley get a dressing down in those parts for such sentiments.

But its not specific to music, it can apply to any cultural mediums, film, music, tv. For example, I thought No Country For Old Men was another piece of hyped up pretentious muck. Critics couldn't understand it either but probably were to afraid to admit so, so they all agreed to lap praise on nit for fear of looking stupid.

I like most of his recorded material but he is absolutely awful live in concert.

I've gone to seem him three times over the past 20 years and came away bitterly disappointed each time! :(

Dylan fans are usually made up of people who loved his folksie stuff before he went all electric and those who discover him in recent years. He was once asked by a uk journilist ''what is your message in your songs and to the world '' ? A straight foreward question considering all the hidden meanings that were supposed to be in his lyrics but dylan took offense at this question and turned on the journalist saying if you have to ask the question than you dont really get it do you ? .That same journalist met up with dylan again many years later and asked the same question '' ''what is your message in your songs and to the world '' ? He still never got a reply and dylan went as far as to say it was this journalist who was responsible for dylans popularity declining in the uk .A very weird and complex man dylan .

I prefer the byrds electric version of '' mr tambourine man '' than dylans folksie version .

And apparently millions like that. If you listed bands you liked I sure someone could describe them in a similar way too.

I do listen to and enjoy the whining old prick, and can fully see why others would despise him, as with a lot of the music I listen to and hate (i.e. I can see why others would like the music I hate).

Do you really wonder if you are the only one not to like him? would have though he would be number one on the list hated people "generally held in high regard by the status quo."

Change the title to hyped up pretentious muck then

True, his concerts are a bit of a let down, but sure have you seen the man! He sits at all his concerts, probably too fecked to stand for 2 hours.

Im not of the Bob Dylan era, being 21 and all, but the guy is still a ledge.
Gonna have to read his book once I get the chance!

I like a few of his tunes but saying that he's just a good songwriter, not so good at guitar or singing. He was ****e in concert when I saw him. Though that weekend in Kilkenny was the best weekend of my life, 39 fecking skins. A massive 39 skinner!

Bob Dylan was way before my time, but I started listening to his stuff a few years ago and love it. He writes good songs, even if his voice is a bit whiny.

Bob Dylan is great, and is unique given his voice. I always imagine people young and old in a cool well layed out hang out with weed smoking and discussing their ideaologies in a naive but passionate manner. Dylan is like the only sane voice when the THC in the dope takes over. Dylan is a narrator from the sixties.

More or less agree with the OP, can't stand most of his stuff, a few of his songs are all right though.
