    Hey!
I'm going to buy a plasma hd tv in the next few weeks. I have looked around and found the Panasonic THPV70EY to look very good and the salesman recommended(as he would I suppose) it to me.
Has anyone got any advice on this tv?
    Is it actually good?
Does it work well with SD tv because it will be a while before I get Sky HD?
When i do get Sky HD how good will it be?:D
Any other problems anyone found with it and let me know. Thank you

Also I'm getting a 26" HDTV for my room around 700 euro.
Anyone got any idea's. It will mainly be used for playing the PS3.
More than likely I will be buying in Harvey Norman any good offers form there would be extremely helpful!;):D

    Thanks

Hi, that model is getting on a bit probably why the sales man wanted to shift it . The next one up from that is the 42PX and 42PZ. Check them out at the panny website for the differences. Think there are newer ones out soon. That aside if you can afford it the pioneer 42" 428xd is the business.

Its a superb TV and the top value HD Ready Plasma on the market.
The PV70EY is the Irish/Euro equivalent of the UK PX70 TV.
Its has excellent SD playback from Sky, DVD, etc and looks superb with any HD source.

Its is due to be replaced very soon by the PY80/PX80. It has newer styling with much nicer stand IMO, 24p playback, better contrast ratio, graduations, etc..

Just bought one of these and its great, i love it.

Doesn't have the full HD panel that its replacement 42PY70 will have but i think its about 1500 - 1600 euro at the moment, compared to 1200-1300 for this one.

Couple of other reasons for keeping the cost down is that for many people buying new TVs they will also have to buy an upscaling / BlueRay DVD plus a HDMi cable which are expensive ! These really add to the amount you 'thought', you were going to spend.

Plus lets face it, how much of a difference will it make to the average non techie type like me ?

I got the 42PV70 + Samsung upscaling DVD player (bean) + Monster HDMi cable plus 4 years extended warranty all for 1500 euro at Harvey Norman, Blanchardstown on Sunday, all Panasonic TVs also came with a free 8.1 Megapixel Panasonic camera.

    I was well pleased,

ok, lots of confusion here about panasonic model numbers.

current model in ireland TH-42PV70 hd ready. the the FULL HD is th-42py70.

in the uk those sets are called th-42px70 and th-42pz70 respectively. different model numbers is due to different tuners.

    NEW MODELS:

    th-42pv80 (th-42px80 in uk) replacement for th-42pv70

    th-42py80 (th-42pz80 in uk) replacement for th-42py70

the new ones have a few nice new features but the fact is that the current generation (ones with a '7' after the pv/py) are still one of the best plasma tvs out at the moment.

Not wishing to add to the confussion, but how does the Pioneer PDP-428 XD rate by comparison to the Panasonic?

I know it is a lot more expensive, but if you had the extra money to spend would you go for the Pioneer?

What confuses me is the fact that when I study the Pioneer specs, it does not appear to be Full HD. I am probably mis reading something, but I am just about to buy a HD and am trying to decide between the Panasonic & Pioneer.

Oh, and is there a UK version of the PDP-428 XD?

the pioneer has better colours. as regards full hd/ hd ready.. no, the pioneer is hd ready (1024 x 768 pixels) but can support full hd signals

at 42" it's quite hard to notice the difference between full hd & hd ready. if you can get a look at them side by side you can see that the colours are more accurate on the pioneer. although at certain times the panasonic looks slightly sharper.

yes, there is a uk version of the pioneer and its called the same. it doesnt have an irish tuner.

I'm looking at possibly getting a TH42PV70EY also, E1100 in did looks like good value.
Alliance also have a few similar models:
    Panasonic TH-42PV8 for E1200
Panasonic TH-42PV80 for E1300. Better contrast & more connections.
or the older Panasonic TH-42PV60 E1000 with a stand. Has component input which is a plus for me, but not sure about contrast.

Don't care about full HD, 720p is fine, I've decided I prefer plasma to lcd & these look the best in my budget. Component input would be a plus. I guess the 24p playback is also if I ever get a bluray player.

Will check them out to see what they're like in the flesh, but interested in any opinions/experiences or any other features I should also consider.

You should seriously think about getting a full hd. Or at least go in somewhere ,where they have the full HD plasma on display.

Alliance have a 42 full hd plasma for 1549 .http://www.allianceelectric.ie/products/tv/plasmalcd/th42py70.htm

    I'm not convinced by HD:
    - my budget would now jump from about €1200 to €1500
    - I've seen debate which suggests you either need to be very close to the screen or have a large screen to notice the difference between 720p & 1080p.
    - 90%+ of what I'll be watching will be standard TV, not much coming on HD yet...
    - Since getting burned buying a WAP phone back in 2000 ("WAP is CRAP"), I no longer subscribe to the "future-proof" idea.
    - I'm more into having a bigger screen (42"), I even considered looking at second hand 480p screens, but people are basing the prices on what they paid 2-3 years ago.

But I'm willing to let my eyes be the judge :)

I would go for the 42PV80 then, with the PV70 next in line after that.
PV80 has some nice additions compared to last years model, PV70.

me too, pv80 or pv70. which ever you think.

i have the pv70 and i use it mainly for ntl digital & ps3.

i have a couple of blu rays and they look stunning on it as well.

at 42" the difference between 720p and 1080p is negligible

I have had the PV70EY now for about 8 years and I am due to relocate to the UK shortly. Can anyone tell me whether this set will still work in the UK when I go back please?
