(Another) Broken Ipod

    Hi guys,

Hope someone can give me advice on this, tried search function but didn't manage to find what I was looking for so apologies if this was posted before.

Basically the problem is my sister's Ipod. It's the 80gb one that you can put pictures on. My Dad bought it for her in NY at the start of December, and she got it for Christmas so it's been in use for just over 2 months. Last night she was about to leave the house and turned on the Ipod to see whether it was charged, but it wouldn't turn on, so she plugged it in thinking the battery was flat, but it still wouldn't turn on. The thing is pretty much dead. It won't turn on, and there's no indication on the screen that it's charging when she's plugging it in.

I haven't a clue about Ipods, so I'm of no help to them.:o What my Dad is wondering is, whereabouts in Dublin (preferrably south county or city centre) would it be possible to get this thing fixed, as it's under warranty until Dec 2008. Would the fact that it was bought in NY make a difference? He's hoping not to have to send it off to apple. He also asked me if there'd be a place that would give out a replacement while the Ipod was being repaired. Would I be right in saying that I highly doubt it?

Sorry about the long post, just trying to include as much info as possible! Any ideas what can be done?

    Thanks!!:)

/edit: forgot to add that he's still got all the receipts in case that makes a difference.

Try resetting it first by holding down the centre and menu button for a while.
if it is shagged the Apple repair program is very painless, probably less so than finding somewhere in Dublin to repair it. You do it online, the next day you'll probably get a UPS pouch delivered which will contain a box and a bag to put the iPod in for you to send it back again by UPS. Last time I used it I had mine collected on the Friday and a replacement arrived the Wednesday, and it won't matter what country you bought it in.

If you are charing off a USB port, make sure it is a fully powered one and not an unpowered hub port.

If the power has completely gone, it may not immediately show that it is charging. Charge for four hours straight, irrespective of what you see on screen. Then try a reset while still on the charger.

Get the serial off the ipod and follow this link:

Another option if you're near Blanchardstown. http://www.mactivate.ie/ipodservice.html
