hi guys, posting on behalf of a friend. he's trying to remotely connect to a security camera through his netopia router. he's followed the instructions and has opened port 80 on the router and enabled remote access in the settings. he is able to view the camera locally by typing the ip address 192.168.1.5 in internet explorer but typing the ip of the router with the port ie 83.xx.xx.xx:80 doesn't work.

i'm new to remote access and he's not a techie so could someone give some advice? do we need to set a static address for the camera? does anyone have any experience with remote access?

    any help is much appreciated!

You will likely need to give the camera a static IP (which it really should have anyway) and more than likely set up a forwarding rule on the router pointing all traffic coming in on that port to that IP.
