Can it be used without the foot controller? I got a copy from a friend but the foot switch is broken. Is there any other way of hooking a guitar to a laptop and still have the prog recognise it?

As far as I know the foot controller is just an interface for changing between patches and sounds. With amp simulator software you can just hook your guitar into the laptop and run the program fine. You just have to go to the input setup and change it to however you've plugged in.

get an audio interface and Im not sure can it run on its own, you might need sonar/cubase or something.

But you dont need the foot controller. tho I would love to have it!

Yeah I'm tryin to find one at the moment, hopefully second hand on the cheap. I'm gonna borrow a toneport gx and see if that works for the moment anyway.

    Thanks.

You can get it to work on a laptop using ASIO4ALL (downloadable) albeit the quality is not that good using the onboard soundcard (so it can be used without the Rig Kontrol pedal). However you need an interface of some description to get the best out of it. I use GR2 on my laptop and my DAW PC utilising a firewire interface on the laptop and a PCI Omnistudio on the DAW. Both provide great latency for playing in realtime and the quality of GR patches are great for my purposes. If you can't get the Rig Kontrol up and running then a cheapo interface to record with is the way to go. THomann sometimes have specials on (ESI box was one that came to mind recently) and if you only want to get the sound into yo/ur computer then Jamlab and Stealthplug intefaces are probably the cheapest and most straightforward interfaces. Line 6 do a one in- stereo out job for about 70 euro too. If you want to play live/get the signal to a PA/Amp, then the interfaces are numerous and the sky is your limit.
Unfortunately, patch changing/realtime modulation of wah/volume etc on the fly is very manual if you don't use the RigKontrol (or a similar midi controller). I sold an Art X15 on boards for peanuts last year thinking I would never use it and then I bought GR2 and need to source a new controller!!
Anyway, once you get it up and running you are going to have a blast. GR3 looks even better than GR2 (with it's new amps etc).
What are the symptoms on the foot controller? Does it power up at at all? It may be simple to rectify.
