    hello -
Just checking if anyone has purchased a lensbaby direct from the US website (www.lensbabies.com), without any problems? If so, was there any customs charge upon delivery? It seems that with the dollar so weak at the moment, it would be a good buy. On the cheaper option, the 2G one looks good to me with the macro accessory kit.

Any fans out there with advice???

    thanks!

    SHILL!!!

    *cough*

Surely that exact effect can be achieved in photoshop without having to buy specialised equipment from across the Atlantic?

Yeah - maybe with some gaussian blurring, but I do like the cheap macro accessories, surely that alone is worth the purchase, i.e. much cheaper than buying a seperate macro lens?

Someone looking for advice is a shill?

Fun gadgets to use IloveAchill, Fajitas! from here uses one and I got to play with it a little. He has a wide angle kit and some other accessories. As far as I know he got one through the States, but bought over there rather than imported.

There's a large chance that you'll get hit with a customs charge alright. Anything I ever bought was hit. Worth getting though if you ask me. Great fun :)

Thanks Roen! I saw Fajitas showing off his lensbaby on the last trip to Louth alright, looks swank indeed! He takes great abstract macro art :) maybe with the lensbaby???

No trips planned to the states this year, so maybe if someone had an idea about the customs cost, I would seriously consider going for it.....

For the record, I am not a shill. (i.e. I am not 'pretending' to be interested in a product or service, in order to stoke up an interest group about said product). Thank you:)

    You're so naive!!! :)

    Here's a funny picture I found online:
    Original
    Blurred

Takes all of five seconds to do. Obviously not identical, but its a slap job, it is in principle fully replicable.

    Or with a radial blur!

Not really naive at all Zillah, seeing as the OP had all of about 9 posts when she started the thread it was easy to see that anything else she had posted wasn't shill material.

Of course it was easier still for you to accuse someone of shilling than to check their form. And again easier to accuse me of being naive than actually apologise about accusing someone in the wrong.

I highly doubt the OP is a shill, considering I'd been talking to her 2 weeks ago in person...

I reckon it'd be a good buy with the dollar being so $hite at the moment. It's a fun tool to have.

Zillah, the lensbaby is made to be a fun tool in your bag, rather than going into Photoshop afterwards. I also think that you can have a fair go at replicating the effects of the lensbaby in post processing, but you're not going to get it spot on, due to the perspective controls, along with the glowing highlights, and stretched bokeh.
