I was concerned about the use of "Magnesium" as a receiver material on these AGEs. Is Magnesium not highly reactive to heat and water?

i think most aegs are made from magnesium and they have no trouble

your thinking too much about it, buy the gun :p

It's a magnesium alloy. Magnesium itself is quite a flammable substance (though it's reactivity with water is inert as far as I remember, you may be thinking of potassium there from your old school experiments). Calling it a magnesium body is a slight skewing of facts I believe may be lost in translation between the manufacturer and the English description.

They're made of a magnesium-aluminium alloy. Quite a stable and reasonbaly type of metal alloy but used for it's low weight factor more so than anything. It's the same type of alloy used in aircraft landing gear for the same reason (though the aviation grade would obviously be a denser version of same). It still carries a certain level of the flammable magnesium characteristics but these are greatly reduced due to the much higher presence of aluminium than magnesium. You're talking about getting it to hit the high hundreds of degrees celsius before hitting flashpoint on it so it's nothing of any concern.

I use a G&G myself and find it one of the best bodies on any aeg i've held or owned, both material quality wise and finish wise.

yup, ive a G&G M4 too and the quality in the bodies is top notch, im not too worried about it spontaniously bursting into flames though,.. :D

Thats good to know, cheers for the replies! I've seen some dodgy translations in the ACM manuals, so I can imagine that they forgot to mention that the receiver is an alloy of magnesium and aluminium:D.

If it was pure magnesium, you wouldn't be able to open the box.
    It's not.;)

If it was pure magnesium it would also be a hell of a lot more expensive. That much magnesium is not at all cheap.

its the same with magnesium wheels, found on motorbikes. they are called magnnesum wheels but are an alloy of mag and alum...

all this talk of magnnesum brings up fond memories of having a magnnesum block (or at least thats what they called it) that you used to scrape shavings off of and start fires with some sparks from a flint.
