Hello, I am thinking of applying for the position of floor manager in TK Maxx I am currently a retail manager and am 27. Has anyone worked for this company before? What are my prospects with respect to promotions as eventually I would like to become a buyer. Any information at all would be helpful.
    Thank you

I worked there on the shop floor for a little over a month, easily the worst job of my life BUT I was an 'associate' and the misery came from the managers. A lot of people were promoted from within, not because they had any qualities becoming a manager, merely because they had been working there long enough to need to be 'promoted'. The result was incompetent managers mixed with a few comptent ones who were external recruits and there was a very clear division between the two. There were also an unusually high number of management staff given the size of the store and so everyone made a real effort to 'make their mark' - usually by being far too hands on and aggressive with their management style.

Everything is targets targets targets (probably no different from any other retail establishment in that respect!) and HQ maintain a firm hand. Re promotions I know a lot of people had to relocate to get any chance of promotion - buying is usually a HQ function.

I worked there for 19 months and while the first 6 were largely positive....it ended badly.

As ellscurr said a huge volume of managment relative to associates...layer upon layer, each of which weighed on that below...all pressurising those beneath....

Very long hours...if the work wasn't completed one had to stay back, regardless of the time rostered. I was actualy threatened with dismissal for being unable to work beyond my rostered time...

But hey I don't know is any retail job easy...I was in Next and that wasn't straightforward either...but it was at least a little more structured than TK Maxx. My branch had no H.R. manager...just a national one who visited once every 2 or 3 weeks....and a lot of bullying did occur.

If your a verteran of retail and happy there you'll probably be ok...but I don't see much to specificaly recommend Tk Maxx
