I have flown with both and I had no problems with either.

I flew to Thailand last year with Gulf Air - no problems
I flew to Australia a few years back with Qatar - cant remember any problems.

I'd probably give Qatar the edge over Gulf in terms of service/facilities at the moment. Gulf have begun to slip a little in comparison to what they were

I flew with Qatar and I found them to be excellent.

    Thanks.

    What about emirates?

Only thing is that I would have to book a separate flight.

Would this mean I will have to collect my bags and recheck them in as emirates dont offer flights from Dublin.

I would be using Aer Lingus if that makes any difference.

Most likely, though they might check them through - you'll still have to get your Emirates boarding pass etc at the next airport.

I suggest you have a look at http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/seats.htm for the different airlines you are considering, and see what others think

You flying from Dublin? Just wondering,as Gulf Air stopped flying from Dublin. Instead Ethihad is now flying Dublin-Abu Dhabi.

Very good Airline, especially the inflight Entertainment (big 13' screen in each seat in economy). Abu Dhabi Airport leaves a lot to be desired, but is ok for a 2 hour stopover.

From the 2 Original Airlines Quatar will win hands down. They are one of only 3 (i believe) so called 5* Airlines. Very nice planes and generally good service. Gulf Air has really slipped lately, and I didn't like their flights very much.

I am flying to Bangkok and cheapest are through middle east airlines.

Its a case of Qatar or cheaper Emirates around €100.

But I will booking 2 flights going through Emirates as they don't offer Dublin flights. Connection would be a few UK airports but worried if delays and I might have to check in bags in UK so longer connection needed.

Might just do Qatar as they offer the full package

Try Trailfinders at 01 6777888. Last time I had to check (same route to BKK) they had some special deals with Etihad, and they were by about 150 Euro cheaper then anything else I could fine.

Also worth to try Etihads Website. Very often they have special deals on their own website which work out cheaper then any agent.

    Trailfinders was dearer.

Eithad had a terrible stopover off 12 hours on the way back.

    Just booked Qatar.

    Thanks for all your answers

    Warning about Qatar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do NOT check in less than 3 hours before flying with them.

They are great in the air but on the ground they show no mercy.

Coming back from Thailand they wouldn't let me on because they overbook every flight by about 30 places so that each flight is full. Was there about 1.5hours before flight and they said I was too late. And they don't offer as much as a cup of tea because it's in their T's an C's that you must be there 3 hours before your flight so they're covered.
