I'm sitting at my desk drinking coffee... A lovely pc is right in front of me; an n95/8gb is in the cradle on the desk, and a tytn is in my coat pocket (mostly to play with spb's great new "mobile shell 2"...)...oh, and my boss gave me a treo 750v...
So, I'm sitting here answering your question on my 20 months old e61!!!!!
Why? Because if you don't mind the looks and formfactor, there still is no better smartphone!
    Fullstop
prettier ones? Yeah! Some with flashier features? Sure? Overall better and more reliable and sturdier? No f*****g way! Fallen off car roof while driving? Check! Frozer - ever - in 20 months? NEVER! Open and edit and attach/insert images etc in word docs AS STANDARD? Check! Send email WHILE ON A CALL? Check! Transfer a song by bluetooth while litening to another song while browsing the web? Check!
and in a couple of months opera 9.5 will give this dream full flash support for youtube and google video etc etc...
    get the e61!
    You won't regret it!
And don't worry about the age-factor...there are still great new 3rd party applications released - almost daily! Fw updates are easy to implement thanks to nokia's good support and the great pc suite...
As to the pearl: just try the keypad, and then use the e61's!!!
The treo is actually not bad, but could have used a better processor and more ram - but nice ui they stuck on top of wm, and the keypad is nice if you take a couple of days to get used to it - since the 500 is smaller than e61 it's easier for 1-handed use... And plenty of freeware for windows mobile!
    So:
    e61/61i

    or treo 500

    imho!

    Anyone????

I'd go for the E61i mate. I've used a Treo 750v but as in all Windows Mobile Smartphones, the battery life is atrocious. E61i is sturdy, impressive battery life and just a damn good device.

I have had the E61 for a while now.
Cant say enough good things about it.
It is reliable and just so handy.
    Would recommend it.

Since nobody else has replied I'd thought I'd take the plunge:

Can't comment on the Treo or the E61 I'm afraid but I got a Curve through work recently and have found it to be a great phone.

Phone, text and e-mail all works well (though be aware that unless you have a Blackberry Server you will only receive e-mails when your pc is ON depending on what e-mail you have set up to the blackberry).

GPS does work on the Vodafone network(despite what I read in some posts on this and other sites) though I haven't seen how much this will cost yet!

Camera won't set the world alight but it isn't bad. Bluetooth works well with a headset.

Haven't played too much with the media player much but have put some songs on the player and listened to them. Surprisingly this was very easy to do and the sound out of the player was really good.

Battery life is quite good. Only lasted 2 days recently (don't quite know why) but have got 4 days out of it on previous occasions and got 6 days out of the last charge and there was still 20% left on the battery after 6 days.

Not sure if you wanted so much detail but hope this helps.

If I may butt in: whats the browser like?

TBH I have hardly used it. I have read that some people have complained that it's not as fast as some of the fast broadband browsers on say something like the N95 or the like.

Sorry can't really offer an opinion.

ANother question.....The Blackberry Curve 8310 is on Vodafones website.....any sign of the 8320????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 Ghostrider117

Don't know is the short answer.

I was interested in it as well when I found out I was getting a Blackberry because it seems that it has all the features of the 8310 but it also has WIFI.

I checked with my local vodafone shop but they couldn't tell me whether or not the 8320 would be coming out if at all. Don't forget that only a handful the phones that are available sim free are ever approved by the Network providers. So you could wait for a while to see if you wished but you might not have any joy at the end of the wait.

Well, its handy for voip - think of how much you can save, say, on int'l calls! And browsers like the upcoming opera mobile 9.5 and skyfire support full flash for youtube, google video etc... So, wifi can be useful in a phone.
