I will be flying off to the maldives on wednesday next week for 11days and hoping to get some nice shots while out there relaxing :D

Will have 2 point and shoots with me both will have aquapac bags for them so they can be brought snorkling etc. but i will also have my 40D with me.

Trying to make a final decision on what lens's i will bring with me, will definetly be bringing my dad's Tamron 90mm macro lens (plenty of lizards, hermet crabs, fruitbats etc..) my own canon 24-70 2.8L will also come with me, but i don't have a circular polarizing filter for that lens.
So i think i will also bring my old sigma 18-200mm lens, it's a decent all round lens with good reach and i have a polarizing filter for it, but it's obviously not as fast or sharp as the canon.
Was half thinking of bringing my dads sigma 10-20mm wide angle but i'm not really into wide angle shots that much. Having said that i will be on a pretty damn small island so thinking i might regret not bringing the wideangle....
Dont think i'll have any need for a Sigma 80-400 so that can stay at home to save weight :p

At the same time i don't want to bring out too much stuff either, but hey i'm probably only gonna get to go there once and i wanna get it right when i'm there not look back and say i wish i had brought that other lense instead :o

I'm half tempted to try and pickup a 77mm polarizing filter for the canon lens before i go but i know they are not exactly cheap either.
Anyone ever been out there or to other similar destinations and any tips for shooting in such locations?

From a non-photographic point of view - 1st thing 1st - enjoy yourself while on holiday... I bring my gear to Japan, Tunisia etc. and sometimes I spend so much time looking for the "right" shot that I forget to look at where I am... Unless you're taking photos on assignment the images captured by your eyes can last a lifetime too. I climbed onto the top of a quaint little mountain in Sidi Bou Said (near Tunis) and it was beautiful, the sea below me and a lighthouse to one side - there was a graveyard behind me too... I purposefully chose not to take any photos and just enjoy standing there and listening to life passing by. Afterwards I got the train back to my hotel and left for the airport the next morning. This memory is the strongest one I have from Tunisia and I don't think a photo would have captured what I felt (or allow me to have felt it in the first place as I scurry around thinking about the composition and light etc.) - Sorry about this off-topic (rant?), it's 1 in the morning and I'm sleepy :(

Other than that - Maldives = sand right? Make sure you bring cleaning equipment (rocket blower, micro-fibre cloth) and UV filter as protection against sand and sea surf. A tripod may be useful for sunset shots/twilight/star trail shots at night.

Thanks for that, you are right of course, priority goes to enjoying myself out there, if i have the chance to bring back some nice photo's too, that will be a bonus :)

I have UV filters on all len's and will have mini tripod for the sunet and night exposures, I like my macro photography so will have fun strolling around the island with that lens if I get the chance in between the watersports :)
