Sky Multiroom Phoneline required..

I just had a lady call to the door to try and get me to take on Sky.
Im currently using NTL and like it, as we have cable in all the rooms in the house.. She made we aware of sky multiroom viewing for an extra only 15 quid a month (plus the inital cost of the extra box)
I was very interested until she informed me i require a phone line..

Is the phone line required to transfer the signal to the additional boxes in the other rooms? if that is the case, does the phoneline have to be actually activated with eircom or do i just need an actual phoneline to transfer the data.

    Thanks

    You need a "live" phoneline.

Sky are very insistant that a phoneline is connected to ALL boxes with Multiroom, as it's Sky's way of ensuring all Multiroom boxes are within the same dwelling (and not boxes given to friends or family, etc for cheaper subscription)

It's to stop you running the cable to your neighbour, so both sky boxes require an active phoneline coming from the same phone connection/number.

    ok thanks for that guys...
Wouldnt be cost effective to get sky then if i had to pay line rental.

    Cheers anyways

If you're happy with NTL, then there is little point in moving IMO.

Ah, OK. Sky's EPG (GUI) is becoming somewhat bloated with all the channels IMO. That said, Sky+ rocks! :)

on a side not, any idea how much it would be to have the ntl digital package we have in the main room, in another room in the house?

Best asking that on the Cable forum, if not already mentioned.
