    Windows Movie Maker?

    Maybe not what you're looking for but I use VirtualDubMod for .AVIs and XviD encoding.

    I already have Windows Movie Maker, but I'd prefer a program where I can possibly lighten and darken video clips etc.?

    You might have the old Windows Movie Maker
    try Windows Movie Maker 2 - can be downloaded from Microsoft.

    I.ve used Avidemux its an open source video editor. Little tricky to use at first, but loads of features. For Windows or Linux
