Missed continuous assessment exams... help!

    Ok, heres the story,

    Every 2 weeks since the beggining of Michaelmas term we've had labs with an assessment the following Wednesday at 9 a.m. The thing is that i missed almost all of the assessments purely out of laziness tbh. Overall, all the assessments are worth 10% of the subject for the year.

    Just so happens that we have been given an oppurtunity to resit any missed assessments in April providing we have
    a) a letter from my tutor.
    b) a med cert.
    - either of which has to be handed in by next friday the 14th.
    The thing is that I could probably convince my doctor to write me a cert saying I was sick or whatever for one of the assessments but what am I going to say for missing so many of them every two weeks?
    Any suggestions/ ways of sweet-talking my tutor into giving me a letter to re-sit these exams?

    Thanks

    I'd say you are pretty screwed...

    You might get away with a couple but the whole lot???

    Have you talked to your tutor?

    ah for fcuk sake, that's nothing to do with anything,
    Btw, i didn't miss all of them, we had 7 and i missed 5. And no i didn't talk to my tutor. My plan was to do well enough in hilary exams and trinity exams to pass overall, but realised with a 50% pass mark, and losing aprox 8% (i didn't do that well in the assessments i did sit) i would have to do pretty well in said exams, and I'm really cramming for them, probably not going to do very well. That extra 8% could come in handy.

    Unless you have a valid reason for missing them they aren't obliged to do anything about it.

    You knew they were on and chose not to bother; I reckon the best thing to do is chalk it up to experience and remember for the next time your alarm goes off and you decide you couldn't be arsed getting up to go into college.

    As to what you can do right now; if they've pretty much stated you need a letter from your tutor and a medical certificate then presumably they won't bend on it.

    However; your tutor is about the best person to talk to so I suggest talking to him/her. Other than that; read above!

    Oh yeah, and Trinity is a small place and posting stuff like
    i missed almost all of the assessments purely out of laziness tbh

    could come back to haunt you (even if it's never mentioned to you).

    Mind you, this is Trinity, and I've seen people get away with blue murder. The trick is to hang in there long enough and you'll blag your way through eventually!

    What is all this about a 50% pass mark??? Does that apply to all courses?

    Ehm (40-50%==a third)
    49%!=FAIL

    Really depends on how your department functions tbh. It sounds like they're fairly serious about these assessments from the info you've given us and it seems like they might accommodate a student who missed one, but 5? Unless you've a very sound tutor, then I'm doubtful they'd let you resit them.

    Then again, you should probably talk to your tutor about it, you never know.

    My MSc in Civil Engineering requires a 50% pass mark per subject to pass
