ok i have a sony vaio 15" screen size i think but my little brother messed the screen up somehow and i an losing an inch on both sides.

the actual size of the screen is 13" X 8" but i am only getting to use the 11" X 8" in the centre and the inch either side are just black.

Any ideas how i can fix this?

check to see if its hardware or software related:

use the Print Screen (Prt Sc) button. This saves an image of your screen onto the clipboard. Paste that as a new.jpeg

If the black lines pop up, its software related. If not, hardware.

Either way perform a system restore.

That could happen if the resolution was set to a 4:3 selection, and the scaling options were set to keep a fixed aspect.

Right click on a blank area of the desktop, and a menu bar should come up with 'display properties' or some such. Check that the resolution is set to the maximum possible (probably something like 1280x800 or 1440x900).

On most sony viao's it's Function (FN) + F7. There should be a picture on the key of a square with an arrow on each side point outwards. Have you got the hotkey utility installed?

that worked thank you very much.
