Can anyone shed some light on the Degree you get in Garda College? What kind of degree is it exactly?

    How widely is it recognised?

Can you use it to do masters in anything? I'm assuming that it would work for police relating subjects, but anything else?

Ordinary degree in policing studies (hetac accredited) so fairly widely recognised, the masters comes into effect when moving into the officer ranks.

    Thanks a lot.

What do you mean by "the masters comes into effect when moving into the officer ranks."? Training you get for officers' position earns you masters?

its an additional course once you go for Super.

the policing degree is recognised officially but most people would not consider it genuine as you can only get it in Templemore and its not as if you can use it in any other job.

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Police studies is what you earn.

No I'm afraid not. If you go onto the Kings Inns site you will see a list of recognised degrees. At present you would need to complete the 2 year Dip in Legal studies (part-time) and then sit the entrance exams. If youre sucessful you can then sit the 1 year BL degree.

Dont know about Kings inn but in certain courses you get recognision if your applying to study law and hopefully, become a solicitor or barrister. Obviously its not much, 1 year or parts of the course off. When we pass out we get a talk about going on and getting law degrees, masters etc but most just want a break from study at that stage.
