Universal Battery for HP Laptop 18.5v

I have a HP510 laptop and was hoping to get a Universal Battery pack - to give it a few more hours of juice..

The AC adaptor is specified at 18.5v output 3.5a 65w
The laptop battery says 14.4v.

My question is - a lot of the battery packs on ebay etc are quoted as 19v - is this too much for an 18.5v laptop and
Am I looking for a battery pack quoted as closer to 14.4 or 18.5 i.e the battery power or the ac adaptor power - I'm thinking its the AC as the battery pack would plug into the ac terminal?

Finally - any suggestions of what I could get!!

There the right voltage and seem to be right for HP 510 so should suit you fine.

thanks..but was hoping to get a universal battery so when I dump the HP it will still be useful as a laptop backup battery power unit..

your battery should have a "Replace with: " followed by a model number. Thats what you want to buy.

the "replace with" isin't there - but that would be for a battery that would slot in to the battery slot - what I'm referring to is a "battery pack" with numerous voltages and power tips for connecting to any laptop - I've seen them for 19v but nothing that covered 18.5v....:o

o_0 so you are talking neither of the standard HP battery type (which we all know and love, it humps our machine with love and thrusts it full of joules) nor the power supply/charger: you speak of an entirely different beast?

Yes! something like this - but it only gives 16v or 19v and I'm afraid 19v is too high for 18.5v requirement...maybe not

Im no expert but the extra 0.5v might equate to a little laptop overclocking but I have no clue to how the internal powerbus actually operates: it might be able to shed the .5 but it could also distribute the .5 among the circuits, which again, equates to an overclock, which could either overload the system (i doubt it personally, Id say they can tolerate some voltage variance) or it will improve your performance marginally

Check with your laptop manufacturer they will have the pros.

unfortunately hp will only say use official batteries...

Yeah Ive since learned this will be my last HP purchase; purely on the poor quality of their customer support.

Try asking them again but give them as little detail as possible: just ask if a 19v input would damage your 18.5v rated laptop.
