The colour works well Baz and your work does keep going from strength to strength. Every new shot is always getting better and better. I can see that you're getting really comfortable working closer and going for the tighter crop. I do like this shot alot, you're drawn to his eyes. Only thing I might do is burn the cig a little bit to bring out more detail if you could?

I actually sat with that man on o'connell bridge while he begged, i bought him and me a beer, we chatted, he's from finglas originally just around the corner from me, the police came and took my canon 1DS that they presumed i'd just stolen coz i was sitting with a man down on his luck, i gave him a few bob, a few beers and wished him the blessing of God to call on him.

I'm assuming you got the camera back?

I wish you had done this shot in portrait mode Baz, I think it might have made a good shot great, at the very least I'd crop tighter to his face.

that's the best shot i've seen you post; and i think it'd lose something in portrait format.

I think the the landscape mode works really well.
    Good shot, baz.

Can tell he appears to have gotten a smack in the side of the face/ear, I'd personally like to see more of his head I don't like the way its cut off at the top but I have to say I like the DOF in the shot

ShakeyBlakey how did you get your camera back? :)

yes of course i did a week later after proving me and the subject didnt steal it, now its on the pulse system so if i happen to get into such a situation again, it should only take 6 days to get it back next time. I bought it from a chinese man who had bought it in china, so the original receipt was in chinese, I took it to store street garda station, and they said "whats this????", I said its the receipt, they said thats not good enough, you must get the man you bought it from to come in with you Tuesday at 2 o'clock!, so i got in contact with the man, told him the situation, he agreed to come with me, tuesday at 2'oclock we arrived and asked for the guard in question and were told they were not on duty, come back Thursday at 2'o clock, fair play to the man he came back with me again on thursday, I got my camera back and was told it was my own fault for talking to a homeless man in the first place....
So Baz be careful taking these great shots coz people with expensive camera's must avoid talking to poor lost souls.

i agree Magic, its my favorite (for now) ---

the man has lived some life , champion amateur boxer , who as Shakey said has fallen on tough times -- he picked up a hiding last week , from a gang , one to one hed have had them (he said) -- those eyes tell a 1,000 stories , but i see hope in them , and i was able to encourage him somewhat
at this tough stage in his life , we all go through rough times in this roller coaster journey of life -- some go higher and some go lower !

That is one of the craziest things I have heard in a long long time.. What reason did they have for taking it off you? You had done nothing wrong and they cant just take property off people. Did you not explain the whole photographer thing?

Exactly, that seems absolutely crazy. What right did they have to take it off you? Thirdfox??

Lovely portrait. DOF, colour and contrast is great and the back story just adds to it.

But...I'd prefer a portrait crop. His chin and (mottled) neck are cut off. Maybe if you stood a bit further back, the cig wouldn't get blown out?

That's so F'd up, do you mind telling me what age you are?
You should make a complaint about that.

Just because somebody has no place to live and are down on their luck doesnt mean their bad people, I actually find such people are more genuine than a sleezeball in a suit.
I grew up in Finglas and judge me as you want, say I grew up with knackers.
Dont get me wrong I know people that would slit your throat for a euro but we shouldnt paint everybody with the same brush.

agree - hate that term "knacker" -- i'm not big , but can handle myself if needs be , apart from once , no need , most people i photograph are great people , with a wonderfull fighting spirit , in the right sense -- but then my motto , here is , attack me not the subjects of any of my photos .
I've been down on my luck myself, and understand , how quickly life can turn for the worse .
    B.

no ones attacking your subjects, as far as im aware and as for as my experince goes, anyone dressed in a track suit, if i asked or did take a picture of them, my camera would either be stolen off me or id get a coke bottle thrown at me.
