Installing XP without CD/floppy drive

    Hi guys,

I need to reinstall XP on a friend's laptop but the CD drive is fubar.

I have tried unsuccessfully to get the laptop to boot from both an external USB HDD and memory stick.

I have managed to install the OS on top of the old OS but this leaves all files from the previous installation when what I really want is to wipe it entirely.

Is there a trick to making an external HDD or memory stick bootable?

    Thanks,

    John.
