I have a downloaded a large PDF doc and want to incorporate parts into a manual ( non commercial ). How do I make the original document amendable so I can copy or delete tracts of text and layout.:o

Depends on how the pdf was made, if it was scanned then it will need some kind of ocr, if it was a doc it can be copy&pasted from. You could try convert it to doc format, what software are you using?

OK Techwise I am well down the evolutionary chain :o Hence the query. So be gentle with the novice.

I tried opening with (default) acrobat reader, tricked around a little with toolbar functions ( tried to figure out a solution ). Got small result via export to text function but format was skewed and not very presentable.:(

If you just want a text dump you can do the export to text thing as you did. But as you've seen it won't keep the formatting. Convert it to doc - http://www.zamzar.com/

Thanks Sherifu, was just about to go installing some PDF to DOC converter. I see Zamzam also handles all video types too, sweet :D
