Has anyone ever been to Gumbet. We were thinking of going in July and i was wondering is the nightlife good? I was in hersonnissos last year which was a mighty crack and i was wondering would it be on a par with Crete?

I stayed in Bitez last year, but we went out in Gumbet pretty much every night. Its a fantastic spot. Plenty restaurants, good pubs and clubs which stay open until whenever.

Go to Chinatown restaurant where the "maitre d" calls himself Martin O Connor in the thickets Turkish Cork accent you will ever here.

Only drawback with July I'm told it gets so hot that there are not an awful lot around. Temperatures in excess of 40 by day and even at night you are looking at 30-35 degrees. Probably recommend June or late August.

Was there did not like it. People constantly out to scam you.

Went to a Chinese restaurant one night and ordered food. Was a student at the time so made up the bill before we ordered. When the bill came it was different to what me and the girlfriend made up. So asked for the menu and it tallied with the bill. Confused I paid the bill. Two days later was going to water park and that restauarant was the meeting point. So while I was there asked for a menu and bloody hell it was the same price I remembered.

They had two menus one for when you ordered and one to scam you on the bill. everywhere you go people will try and stiff you on goods, services, trips etc.

Plus the food is awful and when you ask for something out of the ordinary you do not get it. They say yes no problem and never bring it.

I hated the place. July is also VERY hot. If you do go keep your wits about you.

Sounds like a bad experience, or they just saw you coming, as the prices were always very cheap for us, and we weren't exactly working from a budget. We even haggled free beers and bottles of wine out of them before we sat down, and then haggle a free desert or a few more free drinks when the bill came!

Yeah they saw me coming and had two different menus printed you moron. You make it sound like Im some green walkover. As far as Im concerned they were criminals and I told them so to their face. They offered me free meals, free champagne etc and I told them to shove it. Anyone who treats their customers with that level of contempt deserves all they get. Dont make me sound like the bad guy here. And it was not just that restaurant it happened everywhere a few cent here a few cent there. It was a bad experience alright the whole fcuking thing. Dont go to turkey is my recomendation.

A few of my friends went there about July 20th ish last year, and said it was far busier when we were there (they went twice in the same summer) in early June. Apparently it is like that every year due to the horrifically high temperatures.

Lets just say it was more common to get the wrong change than the right change in bars, restaurants and shops. There are planty of other cheap destinations that don't have as many sharp practices as Turkey. It starts in the airport when you arrive and have to pay 20 pounds sterling to get a visa. Sterling only when i was there so you had to change your euros at some godawful rate.

OP, was there myself a few years back, as well as visiting kusadasi a few times. You will either love or hate Turkey. Personally I love the place, haggling is a artform over there, the night-life is bril, the food is wonderful and the people are very friendly/helpful. Hope you have a blast over there.

When I was in Istanbul last year visas were €10 or £10... so worked out better for us. When were you there kmick?

i was in bodrum last year, went to gumbet a couple of times as we could'nt find an irish bar in bodrum! I personally didnt like gumbet, preferred bodrum, the nightclub in bodrum (hallakarnas i think its called) was super, but very expensive (red bull cost me 5e) but the night club was amazing and well worth it! The beach in gumbet is lovely, this is the only thing i liked about the area though! I went at the end of may/start june and had a brill time weather was just right and hotel wasnt overly busy. If you go make sure you go to the market in bodrum think its maybe on a thursday/tuesday cant remember which but its great fun!
