patrick swayze diagnosed with terminal cancer

hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's worth mentioning here that patrick swayze's been given weeks to live after therapy has failed to work as doctors expected.
"Dirty Dancing" star Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and might only have weeks to live, a rep for the actor told the New York Post's Page Six gossip column.

Swazye was diagnosed with the cancer more than a month ago, Page Six says. The average life expectancy for the disease is six to nine months, with only 4 percent of patients living more than five years.

Earlier Wednesday, the National Enquirer reported that Swayze had been diagnosed in late January with pancreatic cancer that had spread to other organs. The tabloid said he has five weeks left to live.

For the past month, Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University's prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful, the Enquirer says.

According to the Enquirer, Patrick and his wife, Lisa Niemi — who both have pilot's licenses — have been flying their private Beechcraft plane into Palo Alto's airport, minutes from the Stanford Cancer Center, where the actor reportedly has received outpatient treatment.

He received three doses of chemotherapy and the tumor shrank, but less than his doctors had hoped for — and Patrick was told he should prepare for the worst, the Enquirer reports.

"He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short — they held out little hope for a cure," an insider reportedly said.

The "Ghost" actor has lost more than 20 pounds in the past few weeks and is restricted to a liquid diet because he has trouble keeping down solid food, the insider reportedly added.

hopefully it all works out in the end for him

Apparently it isn't quite as grave as that yet.

But he has pancreatic cancer so he doesnt have long unless he gets extremely lucky.

    Terrible news.

Damn shame. One of the finest actors of the 80s who went through a bit of a dry patch in the 90s before returning to form in Donnie Darko.

I really hope it works out for him as he's one of the few actors I've always wanted to meet.

Sir Patrick of Swayz? Cancer? I never heard about that. Mental. Poor guy.
Still though... kinda sets up a Ghost sequel pretty well.

This is sad sad news, he really was excellent in the recent FOW Point Break as Bodi, did his own Skydiving for the movie and was also excellent in Roadhouse Next of Kin and the excellent Donnie Darko. As Basq said show some respect for the man, my prayers are with him that he will win his fight of his life against the big C.

The tears are streaming! My God that's funny, probably a bit soon though tbh.

In all seriousness though I hope he can fight it off.

    I have, and I laughed.

You'd go insane if you went around being po-faced all the time about such things. Humour is a great defense mechanism.

medias giving him five weeks and in fairness agressive cancer can be amazingly fast. just look what happend to ronnie drews wife.

weird this, like kurt russel he's one of those guys you always think will be knocking around doing films forever, maybe not huge big budget jobs , but always on the radar.

poor lad. its an awfull way to go.

you bastid :D you almost made me spew my coffee all over my monitor. That would of been fun trying to explain in the office what I was laughing at.

Oh, and i've also lost a family member to cancer, I think pretty much everyone has. But death happens, the sooner everyone accepts that they and everyone around them will die the happier the rest of your life will be.

reminds me of this guy I was watching last night:

    The "last lecture"

    Swayze's Doctor Disputes Near-Death Reports
Patrick Swayze's doctor has confirmed the actor has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - but insists he's not as close to death as reports suggest. Tabloid and internet reports suggested the Ghost star was fighting for his life and had been given just five weeks to live, but his physician Dr. George Fisher suggests he's a lot more optimistic about the actor's recovery. In a statement issued to Wenn on Wednesday, Dr. Fisher says, "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic." The Dirty Dancing hunk's publicist Annett Wolf adds, "Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

I should probably just change my username to inbadtaste so people can just auto ignore me the next time a celebrity dies or suffers some misfortune. Cos I will be in that thread too, making terrible puns.

You are correct. I have no idea where the Green White and Gold came from. Probably represent the Leprechauns.
