I was wondering that when people make the decision to release a photo from the depths of their hard drive and actually print it out to frame and display, what size do people tend to print the photo or does it depend on the photo ?

Rory i think it really depends on the photo and where you plan to actually put it, if its a big open space a 4" X 6" in a frame will be lost.
Another consideration is the megapixel of the camera in question coz a really big pic made from a small file will just ruin it.
I think its a matter of subject, taste, available display place and location.
I like seeing nice pics as big as possible but keeping quality, but some pics actually look better kept small. Sorry if i left you back where you started:confused:

your regular monitor displays your pic at 70dots(pixels) per square inch

To print you might go to 300 Dpi so depending on the size of the file (which is relative the amount of pixels) there will be a limit to how big you will be able to print any picture and still having it look sharp.

I do think its to do with the specific image, if it will look big large, if the file size will allow it to be large, the space its intended to fill etc.
Although a large space with a framed 6x4 could be quite interesting, forcing the viewer to approach the image to investigate it.
