    Hi

Am thinking of going to cuba on my own in september. As such, seeing as I will be travelling solo I would like a quite nice hotel... Has anyone tips for how to get there (meaning are there diect flights) and accomodation / safety trips for the island.

    Thanks

    Sarah

Cuba's a relatively big country - it's like asking to recommend a hotel in the UK.

Which part(s) are you looking to visit? Remember a Cuban 4-5 star is like a US/EU 2-3 star in the main.

You might find this useful ;)

Would return immediatedly, if I could, great holiday, very nice hotel and very good service and value for money with first choice.

(Hotel is a bit off the beaten tourist track (i.e quiet-ish) and has good mix of guests (couples, families, singles). Ideal for one or two relaxed weeks on the beach with a few activities strewn in, but if you're looking for a singles orientated hotel, look elsewhere)

We flew from Gatwick, just made our own way there.

    Hi,

We were there last September. Flew with Thomas Cook from Gatwick & got a Ryanair flight over. It worked out pretty good at €1000 for 2 weeks all inclusive. Stayed in Cayo Coco, excellent beaches and diving. We were in the Tryp which was really nice and the staff were wonderful. It's a really nice area though some of the hotels were full of English -lets empty the free bar and ruin everyone elses holiday - types.

Flew up to Havana for a few days. Absolutely amazing you can't go to Cuba and not go there.

If your looking for a quiet relaxing by the beach holiday I'd go for one of the resorts. If your looking to see the real Cuba then head to Havana.

One other thing to bear in mind is that September is the start of hurricane season. We didn't have any problems just a few cloudy days with some really spectacular lightening storms, but we did speak to an English couple who had to be evacuated the year before.

You'll also need vaccines. I know some people will say that you won't but personally I think your better safe than sorry. Check out www.tmb.ie
