Hi guys looking for some constructive criticism of these shots, which do you think is more effective?

Hi Kev - think i prefer the subject matter in landscape in terms of how effective, but the grass in the colour version looks kinda urggghhh(?) Infact the colour of it isn't overly appealing. The focus also appears too soft also which leaves the red brick kinda bland. I also think i prefer the pose(!) of the individual in the first one i.e. sitting straight. For the first one, you could do with straightening the horizon. I think in the second the crop is too tight at the window which also demonstrates a tiny horizon line straightening issue (imho). As a shot I don't think it would have a wow factor for some of the reasons above but maybe its an interesting commentary or reflection on something in particular (?). Hope this opinion (and remember its only a single opinion) is of use for you. Cheers.

Hmmm theyve both got pro and cons for me.

I like the portrait version as it gives of a sense of size, making the subject look small and insignificant (judging by the wine bottle possibly how she is feling) but the landscape makes her look like she is watching something just off shot, adding a sense of involvement and mystery about it.

The colour does feel a little flat in the second version, maybe let us see it desaturated like the top one?

While both are flawed, the first one would be the better.
The second one could be taken anywhere - a girl with a bottle of drink sitting on the floor.
The first one however, because of the portrait framing, we can see that it is a house and a family environment. Her sitting there with the drink paints a much more telling story.

    Flaws.
The second photo is clearly blurry and misaligned. While the subject is the woman, the window is in focus.

The first photos - again misaligned, I'm not quite sure what's happening with the colour, and it would have been much better if it was taken from a position where the tree was not in the frame. A tighter crop would have been preferable. Colour - either convert to black or white, or leave the colour as it is.

    ...in my opinion.
