Question on stance

Can anyone help me on this one, I train in Taekwondo (ITF style) which unlike the olympic sparring WTF , uses hands i.e blocking and punching. We incorporate western style boxing into our training and often spar with kickboxers from my school.
I have noticed when I spar with a kickboxer who comes from a boxing backround I get picked off easily once he gets inside my kicking range.
My question is this: in TKD we are trained to stand tall but I feel maybe a crouch style would serve me better to avoid head shots and allow me to duck and bob.
Any boxers have any hints on stances ? what are you guys told to do when under attack stance wise, any help appreciated.

your stance should be shoulder width, way less than a standard tkd stance, this allows fast footwork and is probably why your been picked apart, boxing is all about range and controlling the range! for an orthodox stance your feet should be pointing at about the 2 o clock mark-this could be used in close or when moving and can be changed as you go to kick-i spar kickboxers, thai boxers all the time and find using my boxing footwork works best as i can get into striking range best using it, then i adjust to what i plan to do, then revert back to my boxing stance. also i would not croutch to much as its not great for boxing or kicking arts!

You need to keep him outside punching distance.. If they have a boxing background, they will pick you off inside the pocket. That's normal.. I'm not sure what you're allowed inside clinch - but outside, use straight front kicks to push them back if they are getting into punching range and then work hard roundhouse kicks to the legs (if allowed) and arms.. Straight front kick will help you alot

Hey Buck, as a Taekwon-Doist myself I actually took up boxing a long time ago become more proficient at using my hands. It is difficult to translate boxing stances directly into Taekwon-Do as having a pure boxing stance can eliminate the use of various kicks, the back kick for example which should be your bread and butter for catching kick boxers with that close distance. when I train with the kick boxing lads they are two a penny to catch with it.
There are certain drills you can use to work on stances that help the transition from Taekwon-Do sparring positions to boxing positions but you have to be careful with them as a good Taekwon-Do sparrer will pummel your mid section as you come more full facing.
    Hope that makes sense.
