Hope one of you expert DIYers can help. The hot tap in my bathroom is just twisting around and no water coming out. Its an old style cross tap. Is this something I can fix myself or should I call a plumber.

it sounds as if it is knackered. (probably the threads on the shank)
i think the best fix is to get a new one. 30 yoyos ish.
    you could do it yourself.
but bath taps have a habit of being a ba****d to get off. i have had to use a grinder on more than one occasion!

if it is going around and stopping, the washer may be stuck.

if you loosen the body (after you have turned the hot water feed off)
and remove it you will see the washer at the end .

if its not on the shaft it will be stuck on the inside of the tap.
just replace it with a new one .

    hope this helps .

Sorry,I should have said that it was the sink tap. Its going around and stopping. Its about 5 years old so hopefully its not knackered. I will take your advice, turn off the water, loosen the top and have a look.
    Thanks a million !
I'll let you know how I get on.
