sorry to bother you all, but I have a quick question

I'm an Irish citizen, as the daughter of Irish parents. I've lived here forever, but i've never held a passport here, it just didn't seem pressing.

I recently renewed my US passport, so the "resides in Ireland without condition" stamp is absent. I have to make a sudden and important trip to england and can't do it on my US passport without the stamp.

Can I travel on my full Irish Driver's licence, or will I get my ass handed to me in the airport, as it says place of birth USA?

    cheers for reading

Travel to a UK airport on an Irish Driver's licence and back = Yes. Although I don't see what problem you should have with a US passport. You could always bring it, if that makes you feel more comfortable, although nobody should ask for a passport.

Cut & Paste from Ryanair website as an example for you: "A valid driving licence with photo is acceptable photo ID for travel on domestic flights within the UK and domestic flights within the Republic of Ireland".

You can travel on the driving license and apart from where is says your place of birth on it I cannot see you having any problems with that. Why could you not use the US passport though?

because I arrived back in dublin minus the residence stamp about two months ago, was shouted at, mug shots taken, visa issued (despite my protesting), was sent to GNIB, queued for ten hours and was told there was no problem. upon closer inspection, the visa says (in tiny writing) "if legally required", which it wasn't. But the visa Stamp is still there. I don't have time between now and travel to get a new residence stamp and no one is answering the phone.

If it would be relatively easy for you to pass yourself off as british or irish in the event of being questioned then i doubt you will have a problem on just the driving license. But they are more likely to stop you on passing through control if you only waive a driving license at them rather than a red passport. Sounds like you are better off denying that you have the american one though as they will always actualy stop you if you wall through with that.
