As much as I am shocked and appalled by what you have posted her I would like to say....

Actually wait, I don't care. Cops are humans and they make the same stupid greedy mistakes as the rest of us. If you don't believe that you are a fool and if you think any police service is not corrupt in some way you are a bigger fool.

No one is perfect, crimes are commited by the rich, poor, advantaged and disadvantaged. No one controls another, no one is perfect. I didn't put the thread to say all cops are corrupt/not. It is AH and such things are interesting to know, especially as a lot of people don't read the papers or watch the news....

Cops should have a code of practice and should show an example. If they go around breaking the law whose supposed to enforce it.

He is only under investigation yet you seem to have assumed a guilty verdict.

Which is why so few of the people who volunteered for the part-time force were accepted.......

Cops should have a code of practice and should show an example.

As do the clergy, the politicians, the teachers, the media etc. The only thing they all have in common is that they are people. And all people are different and can be tempted by criminal gains. In a perfect world this would never happen, but we all know that we're in a far from perfect world.

It's just good to see that the cops aren't getting special treatment. If they're suspected of something, they're investigated liek the rest of us.

You're absolutely correct, cops don't get special treatment. Being detained and questioned in a police station for two days is certainly not special treatment. While some murderers and sex offenders are free to roam the streets, released on bail, an upstanding member of the police force and community has been detained. My heart goes out to this garda's family and friends. I hate to rehash old cliches, but don't believe everything you read! Journalism, like any other form of media, has a tendency to be biased at times and I hope that readers of this thread, and the newspapers that have reported this matter, will give this serious consideration before making any kind of further judgement.

Well diddums and humanji make good points. All this bitching about how they should be this that and the other. People are people.

As for that remark about who is going to enforce it or police the police if you will....all you have to do is look at the headline "Garda arrested in criminal activity probe". Who has the power to arrest, the Gardai and who did they arrest...a member of the Gardai.

No special treatment is shown, if you break the law you are taking your chances of being caught, whether you are a guard or in any other line of work.

Oh so I guess someone will now try and claim that they are all the same and involved in criminal activity.

    Two points here,

Firstly, while events have shown that the Gardai are no longer covering up for their own, there is still a certain amount of distrust amongst Joe Public, ie you're on the way but not there yet...

Secondly, as an "Accused" is deemed innocent until proven guilty by a jury of his peers, why is his name, address, etc publicised to all and sundry before he's been proven guilty? surely he should be afforded anonymous status until he's actually been convicted of an offence?

A more disgusting report I've heardin the papers recently a guard was found to have looked at illegal content shall I put it on the garda pc at the headquarters and apparently he could get away with it because it took them so long to investigate. I didn't get to read the article in full now, but in any case that sort of thing is completely unacceptable

Sure you hear this kind of stuff al the time. Politicans driving under the influence etc. Nothing really new.

That generalization is probably as accurate as saying "all gardaí are corrupt".
The truth I suspect is somewhere in the middle.
