iPhone/iPod touch maps application query

I don't have an iPhone (yet) but I do have the iPod touch and I've noticed
that the Google maps app (standard on iPhone and part of the 1.1.3 firmware/January app update for iPod touch) can access maps for Ireland but when I type in "pizza" or "hotel" I get no matches whereas using Google
maps on the web will give me plenty of red pins corresponding to placemarks
    for hotels & pizza restaurants,etc.
Is it possible that Apple have crippled this level of detail for cities which are
not yet actively supported iPhone locations ?

Why would there be this discrepancy in detail between what is available
on the web and what is available on the native maps app ?

I checked London & Paris and they have the correct level of placemarks for
pizza/hotel/etc and that's why I am wondering if Ireland and other
not yet (but soon to be) supported locations give little or sparse info.

    Any ideas ?

I think I've figured out why there is a difference between the iPhone/iPod Touch
Maps app detail (for commercial locations) and the web version of google maps.
I think it's a clever move by Apple to get retailers/restaurants/hotels,etc to
pay Apple for inclusion on the iPhone maps app (as opposed to being listed
    on Google).

Obviously noone in Dublin has paid yet but they probably will once the O2
launch has happened and they realise it's a way of advertising their location ;)

What network are you with? Meteor doesn't work with Maps properly. I know the LocateMe feature doesn't work and I've never had the search work properly for me either. Try it with an O2 or Voda sim (unless you're not with Meteor, in which case, disregard)

    Hi Chris,

I've an iPod touch (not iPhone). I think the issue is simply that searching
for commercial locations on the Maps app assumes that the commercial
organization (hotel/restaurant,etc) have paid some dues to Apple for
allowing them to be seen on the iPhone/iPod touch maps application.

It is interesting that some of the phone location services don't work
    on the iPhone.
