i applied for a job about 2 months ago and after the 2nd interview they asked me to provide references for them. Soi did i gave them the names and numbers of managers of the two previous companies i worked for.

heres the thing. the company i currently work for use the same software package that these guys i was interviewing with use, and i had that listed on my CV that I had knowledge of the application cos i felt it pretty relevant. Anyway the company I was interviewing for decided to call developers of this software and ask for a reference even though i had not listed them as a referee what with me only having a business relationship with them (we are their clients and I am a point of contact within my current company and never actuall was employed by them. anyone find that strange?

the interview was set up by an agency, should i tell them this has happened?

Very strange considering you did not give them as reference, ring the agency ASAP and get an answer

That is very strange and very unprofessional.

yeah that's what i thought V unprofessional. I'll drop the agency a line and just let them know how these guys carried on.

for what it's worth I didn't get the job. apparently i didn't have the "skills that where looking for" course they only figured that out after 2 interviews, a presentation to the company, a follow up conference call and reference checks. i read that as someone would work for less than you would

Oh and you didn't get the job?
Hmm, any chance on your current employers finding out a call was made to the software developers about you?
