Issue with 8600GT and Philips HD LCD TV

I have a Philips 37PFL9732/10 Full HD LCD TV. I've connected a fast PC with a Gainward 8600GT 512MB graphics card which has HDMI/DVI/VGA connectors. I've tried both DVI to HDMI, and HDMI to HDMI cables.

The OS is Vista 32-bit Business. Hardware is Q6600 CPU and 4GB RAM.

    Now for the problem...

The TV displays the 1920x1080 (1080p) Vista desktop for a few seconds, but then blanks out with a message:
"Unsupported Video Format" displayed on the TV. After a few seconds, the desktop comes back, and then blanks out again. This repeats over and over. Every now and again the message changes to "No video signal". I get the same results with both cables. I haven't tried a component cable yet, but a Google search reveals that others haven't found joy with that either.

Playing arround with the settings on the NVIDIA Control Panel hasn't remedied the problem. I've tried all possible video resolutions. Although by choosing 720p, the desktop stays up for longer.

The connections are fine and I've downloaded the latest drivers from Gainward. The PC is normally connected to a HP 20" 1600x1200 monitor, with which it behaves flawlessly.

Has anyone seen similar symtoms, or can anyone give me some advice.

On the positive side, apart from this issue, my build is a great reasonably priced HTPC. I mean let's face it, it could be the TV.

    Rod.

so to put this in a list-
graphics card faulty - ruled out becuase works with monitor
port on gfx card faulty - ruled out because tried both ports
resoltuion display issue - ruled out as dispalys momentarily
a faulty tv input - tried multiple inputs
all inputs faulty - have you tried a device that is known to work?
faulty HDMI cable - have you tried a known working cable?

to me there are 2 possible causes, all ports on the tv being faulty (unlikely) or the HDMi cable being faulty (probable)
can you test the tv with another HDMI device and try the pc with another cable and post the results?

I think your problem is with your display drivers and the way they where installed.I've got two 8600GT's myself.

I had a similar problem with the latest drivers ,the input display of the tv kept coming up on the screen ,like the signal was being lost.It was DVI-HDMI

I uninstalled the latest nvidia drivers ,turned off my antivirus and all other protection and reinstalled the latest drivers.
    Everything is fine now.

I have the same TV but an ATI card (AGP 1950 Pro) and was seeing the BIOS and Windows loading screens but "unsupported Video Format" after that.

Fix was to uninstall and reinstall the Catalyst drivers properly.
I reckon your issue is similar. This was all in the last 30min.

Now it works I'm doing some homework on HTPCs.
